7th Annual Little Read Published on: October 26, 2015

Thank you Montclair for making the 7th Annual Little Read such a success. Over the two days of the event, 450 children were read to by 50 readers at 7 locations.  New this year was the Fulton Street location of the Montclair Child Development Center, the Montclair Community Pre-K and the Upper Montclair Firehouse. Frankie Faison is always a highlight and brought down the house reading “Interrupting Chicken” at our “Bedtime Stories” Friday evening. The Montclair Public Library presents the exhibition “Organic Alchemy: Works on Paper” to run from October 10 through 30, 2015, at the Montclair Public Library Gallery, 50 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair, NJ. A closing reception will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 7 to 9pm. The Montclair Public Library Foundation’s “Under the Covers” would not have been a success without the enthusiastic support of the Montclair community. Together we raised over $75,000 for the library to promote lifelong learning initiatives. Museum Pass Program Published on: April 8, 2015

What if you could ponder contemporary art, take in botanical gardens, or view ancient dinosaurs for free? Montclair Public Library’s latest service is making it happen. Sponsored by the Montclair Public Library Foundation, Montclair Public Library (MPL) plans to increase museum visitation through its Museum Pass Program. Library Building Proposals Published on: February 13, 2015

On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Library Director David Hinkley presented to the Township Council a proposal for building improvements of both the Main library and the Bellevue Avenue Branch. The Main Library’s new design would add more programming space, classroom space and individual study areas. Renovations to the Bellevue Avenue Library include a three-stop ADA-compliant elevator, a new program space and study and tutor room. Open Book/Open Mind Published on: January 25, 2015

The Montclair Public Library, in collaboration with Watchung Booksellers, launched its “Open Book/Open Mind” conversations series on Friday evening January 9th at 7pm. The library hosted bestselling novelists Christina Baker Kline, author of “Orphan Train” and Matt Thomas, author of “We are Are Not Ourselves.” The evening opened with brief readings from their books. RFID at MPL! Published on: October 11, 2014

Montclair Public Library will be the first library in the state to fully implement radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. This technology, used in the familiar E-ZPass tags, provides libraries with a better tracking system and safer security, as well as expeditious loan and return of library materials. RFID tags also offer complete inventory control, allowing for an easy search for returned items rather than a manual shelf check.
