Listed below is a sampling of our volunteer opportunities. Please note that not all positions are available at all times and that applying to volunteer does not guarantee a volunteer placement.
- Literacy Volunteers – Work with the Literacy Coordinator in adult class settings, or one-on-one with adult learners who wish to improve their reading skills, work toward a GED (General Education Diploma), or improve their English Language skills. Training provided.
- General Library Assistants – Re-shelve returned books. Repair damaged books. Insert visual aids.
- Public Aid – With staff members, prepare for and/or conduct puppet shows, workshops, create visual aids.
- Computer Lab – Help schedule and oversee the public computer lab. Assist library visitors in using word processing or spreadsheet software.
- Local History Room – Help with the historical indexing of the Montclair Times. Training provided. Work with our archivist. Involves the use of microfilm equipment and computer keyboarding.
- Secretarial/Clerical – General office work, involves typing, photocopying, collating, assistance with mailings, etc. Graphic Design/Public Relations – Hundreds of library programs a year must be publicized with flyers, posters and brochures. If you have computer graphics/desktop publishing skills, this is the job for you.
- Events and Committee Work – If you prefer to work on special initiatives or fund-raising events, this may be the area for you.
- Café – Assist Café workers in the operation of the newly renovated café.
- Other – Volunteers with special skills have taught computer classes, poetry workshops for children, provided special exhibits and volunteered their expertise in other ways.
