Persons with Special Needs TTY is now NJ Relay 711 or 1-800-852-7897

  • The Main Library is wheelchair accessible.
  • There is designated parking on the Plymouth Street side of the building.
  • The front doors open automatically.
  • All restrooms are accessible.
  • There are water fountains, telephone and study carrels available.
  • Elevators with accessible controls, connect all public floors.

Thanks in part to two grants from the New Jersey State Library and the Laraja Foundation, the Montclair Public Library has expanded services to persons with disabilities.

The Library is continuing to acquire adaptive equipment and provide services to persons with disabilities. The following equipment is available for patron use and circulation:

  • The following equipment is available for circulation: TTY Machine FM Assistive Listening Devices* *Montclair Public Library is one of twelve Regional Resource Centers for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and is one of six Libraries Statewide participating in the FM Library Loan Program.
  • Two personal systems (150° range) and one wide-range system (>150°) are available to be taken out of the Library and used in classrooms, places of worship, restaurants, workplace, meetings, etc. If you would like a demonstration of how any of the above equipment works or to check availability for loan, please call ahead to the Library to make an appointment.

The library has purchased a variety of materials to help persons with disabilities:

  • A selection of Audio-Described videos for adults and children
  • Variety of Sign Language videos for both adults and children
  • A variety of videos on deaf culture
  • Coping Videos on a variety of subjects
  • Collection of books regarding disabilities and employment issues
  • Collection of large print books, closed-caption videos and books on tape
  • Collection of Resource material on Addictions and Recovery of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (made possible through a grant from the Division of Addictions)
