2-year-olds and the adults in their lives explore language and numbers through stories and songs. Picture books, flannel board stories, and nursery rhymes are used to introduce the wonder of books. Please note that registration is required for each individual storytime.

Every Wednesday Movie MatineeAdult Events 02/13/2019, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Main Library – Auditorium
On Wednesdays at 2 pm, Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a film series presented in its auditorium. In February 2019, we celebrate Black History month. The movies are as follows:
February 6: 12 years a slave — Starring: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Kenneth Williams, Michael Fassbender. In the antebellum United States, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. (2013, 134 minutes, color).
February 13: For colored girls – Starring: Janet Jackson, Anika Noni Rose, Whoopi Goldberg.
Each of the women portray one of the characters represented in the collection of twenty poems, revealing different issues that impact women in general and women of color in particular.

February 20: The color purple — Starring: Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey.
A black Southern woman struggles to find her identity after suffering abuse from her father and others over four decades. (1985, 154 minutes, color).
February 27: Selma – Starring: David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Tim Roth.
A chronicle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. (2014, 128 minutes, color).

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., A ChautauquaAdult Events 02/13/2019, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM Main Library – Auditorium
This Chautauqua (Living History) program focuses on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s spiritual journey from his youth to his opposition to the Vietnam War in 1967. The program is in 3 parts: The first part is Dr. King speaking about his life. The second part is Dr. King answering questions from the audience. The third part is Mr. Jefferson stepping out of the King persona and answering questions about Dr. King.
About the Performer
Mr. Jefferson has an extensive background as a professional actor and between 1997 to 2009 he has performed the Paul Robeson Chautauqua for the entire Newark, New Jersey School district for 12 years. Also during this time period, Mr. Jefferson began his Chautauqua portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 2012, he was commissioned to portray York of the Lewis and Clark expedition for the Ohio Chautauqua. From 2005 to the present, Mr. Jefferson has appeared as Dr. King in the Ohio, Missouri, Nevada and Colorado Chautauqua festivals, he portrayed Paul Robeson in those festivals and the North Carolina and Maryland Chautauqua festivals as well. Mr. Jefferson was introduced to Chautauqua by two renowned historians, the late Dr. Clement A. Price and the late Giles R. Wright.

The group was started by Ronald Murphy and Harold Bell in the early 1990s. Titles, selected by members and the group’s facilitator, focus primarily on African American subjects or by African American authors, as well as recommended and popular titles.
