A Portrait Collection of the Homeless in Newark

The Montclair Public Library’s popular photography exhibit series continues with “All the King’s Men” – A Portrait Collection of the Homeless in Newark by acclaimed photographer Leonard Waldon. The exhibit will be on view in the Montclair Public Library Gallery on the first floor, 50 South Fullerton Avenue, during library hours from February 1, 2010 through February 27, 2010.

Leonard Waldon is a photographer whose favorite subjects are usually skyscrapers, bridges and the flash of race cars. When he turns his lens to human subjects he favors sharp, crisp portraits that focus on provoking a reaction from the viewer.

As a minimalist, Leonard sees the beauty in simplicity. He takes pride in taking photographs that are free of extraneous messages.

In 2008, Leonard Waldon, owner of Anjiru Hair Studio at 12 South Fullerton Avenue, began taking a series of photographs of the homeless in and around Newark Penn Station. In time, he developed a special rapport with his subjects, resulting in a beautiful and poignant series of portraits he calls “All the King’s Men”.
