Capitalism is both a creator and destroyer, destroying the old to make way for the new. It creates inexpensive goods and services, creates new technologies, creates new values and new ways of seeing. It creates new wealth and new inequality. Capitalism is not only an economic system. It is also a system of thinking and feeling, almost a religion. This talk about the creative and destructive aspects of capitalism will explore how it shapes our thinking. Is cynicism an inevitable by-product of capitalism, like pollution and global warming — a kind of pollution of the mind and heart?
