On Wednesdays at 2 p.m., Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a classic film series presented in its auditorium. Below are the films about sisters being screened this April in conjunction with the library’s participation in the Essex County Big Read (essexcountybigread.org):

My Sister Eileen (April 5) – Starring Janet Leigh, Jack Lemmon and Betty Garrett. Ruth and her beautiful sister Eileen come to New York’s Greenwich Village looking for “fame, fortune and a ‘For Rent’ sign on Barrow Street.” (1955, 108 minutes, Color)

Little Women (April 12) – Starring Katharine Hepburn, Joan Bennett and Paul Lukas. Set during the Civil War, this “coming of age” drama traces the lives of four sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott. (1933, 115 minutes, B&W)

Meet Me in St. Louis (April 19) – Starring Judy Garland, Margaret O’Brien and Mary Astor. In the year leading up to the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York. (1944, 113 minutes, Color)

Three Bad Sisters (April 26) – Starring Marla English, Kathleen Hughes and Sara Shane. A millionaire dies in an airplane crash, leaving all of his money to be divided among his three daughters. (1956, 76 minutes, B&W)
