On Wednesdays at 2 pm, Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a classic film series presented in its auditorium. In March 2018, movies featuring outstanding woman actresses for Women’s History Month will be shown. The movies are as follows:
The Philadelphia Story (March 7) – Starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, James Stewart.
When a rich woman’s ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself. (1940, 112 minutes, black & white).
Woman of the year (March 14) – Starring Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Fay Bainter.
Rival reporters Sam and Tess fall in love and get married, only to find their relationship strained when Sam comes to resent Tess’ hectic lifestyle. (1942, 112 minutes, black & white).
His Girl Friday (March 21) – Starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell, Ralph Bellamy.
A newspaper editor uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying. (1940, 92 minutes, black & white).
Mildred Pierce (March 28) – Starring Joan Crawford, Jack Carson, Zachary Scott.
A hard-working mother inches towards disaster as she divorces her husband and starts a successful restaurant business to support her spoiled daughter. (1945, 111 minutes, black & white).
