Every Wednesday Movie Matinee
On Wednesdays at 2 pm, Montclair Public Library hosts The Every Wednesday Matinee, a film series presented in its auditorium. In May 2019, we will be showing movies picked out by our patrons. The movies are as follows:
The Twelve Chairs (May 1) – Starring: Frank Langella, Dom DeLouise, Ron Moody, Mel Brooks. In post Bolshevik Revolution Russia, a rat race style chase ensues for a fortune that is hidden inside of one of twelve chairs (1970, 93 minutes, Color).
The Shape of Water (May 8) – Starring: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Octavia Spencer, Michael Stuhlbarg. In Cold War-era Baltimore, a government research facility receives an amphibious man captured in the Amazon, and a stirring romance unfolds between him and a mute janitor who uses sign language to communicate. (2018, 123 minutes, Color).
From the Terrace (May 15) – Starring: Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Myrna Loy, Ina Balin, George Grizzard, Leon Ames. Based on the 1958 novel by John O’Hara that tells the story of the estranged son of a Pennsylvania factory owner who marries into a prestigious family and moves to New York to seek his fortune. (1960, 144 minutes, Color).
Broadcast News (May 22) – Starring: William Hurt, Albert Brooks, Holly Hunter, Robert Prosky, Lois Chiles, Joan Cusack, & Jack Nicholson. The film concerns a virtuoso television news producer, who has daily emotional breakdowns, a brilliant yet prickly reporter, his charismatic but far less seasoned rival, and the love triangle that develops between them. (1987, 132 minutes, Color).
Crazy Rich Asians (May 29) – Starring: Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, Michelle Yeoh. Based on the novel by Kevin Kwan, the movie follows a Chinese-American professor who travels to meet her boyfriend’s family and is surprised to discover they are among the richest in Singapore. (2018, 121 minutes, Color).
